ASUU: “If Government Will Do What They Are Supposed To Do, The Strike Would Not Pass One Week

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has stated that if the federal government satisfies its demands, the strike might be finished in a week.

After a two-day meeting, held by the union’s national executive council (NEC), ASUU launched a nationwide strike on Monday.

According to ASUU, it is a one-month warning strike to the federal government, with the aim of getting them to fulfill its demands.

According to the union, it attempted to prevent the strike, but the Federal Government refused to respond to its demands.

Christopher Piwuna, ASUU’s vice-president, indicated on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that the strike will be put off as soon as the government performs what it is “supposed to do.”

The ASUU VP said on Tuesday, “We hope that the one-month warning strike will allow the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) to prove themselves and the chief of staff will speak to these individuals to say that the needful should be done.

“If they do what they are supposed to do, then we don’t have to go on strike for one month, it can end in a week.”

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
