A concerned Busy Mom: ” Am I Being Selfish if I take care of myself? 4

Hello Great Mothers!

Hmmm, it’s almost 9:30 am, and breakfast is not ready yet, I still have to go to the store to get some items to prepare for the week, laundry to be done, etc. Today is Saturday, I have only today to attend to all this because I have to go to the office on Monday. Oh! Mirabel is crying. What could be the problem? I fed her 5 minutes ago, maybe her diaper is wet… ….Mary, soliloquizing. Mummy! Mummy! I am very hungry, Davies, her 4 years old son cried out.…. This is the routine of a busy mom.

Most mothers hardly take proper care of themselves, they hardly rest. It seems normal for mothers to sleep late at night and get out of bed early in the morning to attend to the needs of their households. Most moms feel guilty when they take a nap during the day or go to bed early when there are still tasks begging for their attention.

According to research, we all need 7 to 9 hours of sleep per day for optimal health. This is necessary to help our brain function well in order to prevent mental and physical issues caused by sleep deprivation. But most moms are guilty of this, we ignore this fact because of daily responsibilities. We feel guilty when we put everything aside and take a nap for a few hours or go to bed early. Researchers have revealed that sleep deprivation has it’s toll on our relationships, both at home and in the workplace. Also, it causes ineffectiveness, fatigue, depression, and other health issues.

In my previous article, we discussed that having a good sleeping pattern is one of the ways you can take care of yourself as a motger. Do you think it’s impossible?
Some of the ways we can adopt a good sleeping pattern were discussed in my previous article, others are:

Quit while you’re ahead

We all wish we could stay up a little to complete our tasks. However, when you try to work when it’s your bedtime, you will be less productive and you may wake up in the morning feeling very tired.

Give your children tasks
Don’t assume that maintaining the house is just your responsibility. Give your children tasks appropriate for their age. Children as young as preschool age can learn to pick up their toys, and as they become older, the range of tasks increases. Allow your kids to learn responsibility and assist you by sweeping, dusting, and putting away their clothes so that you can get to bed early.

Recognize that getting enough sleep will make you more productive. So, take care of yourself by ensuring you have enough sleep, you need it to be efficient in your daily tasks.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
