Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has arrived at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for his official decoration with the new rank. Disu, who was previously an Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, is expected to be decorated by President Bola Tinubu.
The decoration ceremony is a significant step in the transition of leadership within the Nigeria Police Force, following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who cited pressing family considerations. President Tinubu has expressed confidence in Disu’s ability to provide steady and focused direction for the police force, citing his dedication, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening internal security architecture.
Disu’s appointment has been welcomed by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who described it as “well-deserved” and an honour for Lagos State. Sanwo-Olu praised Disu’s professionalism, competence, and decades-long contribution to the Nigerian Police Force, expressing confidence that he will meet Nigerians’ expectations for a competent, accountable, and trustworthy police force.
The Nigeria Police Council is expected to convene a meeting shortly to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police, after which his name will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation. Disu’s experience, operational depth, and demonstrated leadership capacity are expected to provide a strong foundation for his new role.
