AFCON Spotlight: Has Anyone Observed That Our Players Can’t Sing The National Anthem?

Here’s a fun little secret I recently uncovered: many of us are completely out of sync with the Nigerian national anthem! Yes, you heard me right! The only line I can shout out with confidence is “Nigeria, we hail thee”—and I bet many of you are right there with me!

While our incredible players are giving it their all on the pitch during AFCON, the rest of us can’t help but fantasize about launching a “National Anthem Karaoke Challenge.” Just imagine the hilarity of seeing who can belt out the whole anthem without missing a beat!

Let’s be real: most of us only remember “Nigeria, we hail thee,” and the rest of the anthem? Well, that kind of feels like the tune you hum in the shower, only to forget when someone calls you.

But you know what? No shame in that! Maybe our players should leave the singing to the pros—or at least to those of us who have Google ready at our fingertips! How about we kick off a new trend? Let’s just belt out the chorus and call it a day! 😂😂

At the end of the day, whether we’re nailing the lyrics or not, one thing’s for sure: the spirit of Nigeria lives in our hearts, even if our singing voices hit a few wrong notes!

So next time you’re at a match and the anthem kicks in, don’t sweat it if you can’t reach those high notes! Just remember, we’re all united in our cluelessness—except for that iconic “Nigeria, we hail thee!”

And while we’re at it, a huge shoutout to the Super Eagles for their phenomenal efforts in the AFCON matches! You guys are the real MVPs! Don’t be discouraged—we’re all cheering you on for the next game! 💚

Because the national anthem was changed and there’s a tendency it’ll be changed again once a new government comes in the center.
