AIG Decorates Newly-Promoted Police Officers: A Milestone in Nigeria’s Law Enforcement*

The Nigeria Police Force has formally decorated 30 senior officers elevated to the ranks of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and Commissioner of Police (CP). The ceremony, presided over by Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, recognized the officers’ merit, discipline, and proven capacity.

Thirteen newly decorated AIGs include Christopher Ado Emmanuel, Joseph Eribo, and Miller Gajere Dantawaye, among others. Seventeen CPs were also decorated, including Abdulrahim Audu Shaibu, Sarah Idowu Ehindero, and Rebbecca Uchenna Okereke.

IGP Disu emphasized that the promotions are a strategic investment in leadership, aimed at delivering a more effective, accountable, and responsive police force. He charged the officers to lead by example, maintaining a policy of zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption, or dereliction of duty.

The IGP also announced that newly promoted AIGs will attend a mandatory Strategic Leadership Retreat, organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, to strengthen transformational leadership and modern policing ethics.

This development is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to enhance professionalism and community engagement. The promotions were approved by the Police Service Commission, following a rigorous process, including written examinations and oral interviews.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and former First Lady, Patience Jonathan. Representatives of state governments and the National Defence College were also present.

The Nigeria Police Force is committed to sustaining reforms aimed at improving internal efficiency, strengthening public trust, and enhancing collaboration with national and international partners.
