Arsenal have at last secured an agreement to acquire their long-standing target Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
It should be noted that the defensive midfielder has been a focus for Arsenal for more than a year, with the transfer having been essentially finalized since the winter transfer period.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Zubimendi has now verbally committed to signing a long-term contract in north London, with Arsenal prepared to activate the Spaniard’s £51million release clause.
Zubimendi will mark the first acquisition under new sporting director Andrea Berta, who joined the club from Atletico Madrid in March, following the dismissal of Edu and Jason Ayto’s brief interim tenure.
At 26, Zubimendi is regarded as one of the top midfield talents in European football and is a vital component for Spain, having contributed to his country’s victorious Euro 2024 campaign.
