Arsenal Defender To Rest Of The Season With Injury

Arsenal have announced that Gabriel Magalhães needs an operation on his damaged hamstring and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, delivering a significant setback ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The Brazilian center-back hobbled off the pitch after just 16 minutes during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory against Fulham on Tuesday, with manager Mikel Arteta noting post-match that the defender had “felt something in his hamstring”. Gabriel underwent medical scans on Wednesday.

“We can confirm that Gabriel Magalhães has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery,” an Arsenal statement declared.

“Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season.”

Gabriel has been among Arsenal’s top performers this year, and his absence poses substantial challenges for Arteta ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Everton and Tuesday’s home match against Madrid. Jakub Kiwior filled in for Gabriel during the Fulham game. The adaptable Jurriën Timber was also substituted due to a knee injury, and it remains uncertain whether he will make a return.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
