Taliban Crisis: I Left With Only Clothes, Claims That I Carted Away Millions Of Dollars Is False – Ex-Afghanistan President

Ashraf Ghani, the former Afghan president, has categorically refuted that he fled his nation to avoid Taliban militants.

In the aftermath of Taliban forces entering Kabul on Sunday, August 15, Ashraf Ghani departed the country.

Ashraf Ghani, speaking for the first time from exile, revealed that he is in the United Arab Emirates and that he had abandoned his own country on the advice of government authorities to prevent bloodshed.

Rumors circulating that the former president had taken huge sums of money on his chopper as he left the presidential palace were also rejected by the previous president.

According to rumors, Ghani fled with $169 million in cash on his cash-filled chopper and has been granted asylum in Dubai based on “humanitarian considerations.”

He stated during a live Facebook broadcast, “What had happened 25 years ago in Afghanistan was going to take place again. That was why I fled because that needed to be avoided, a shameful development like that.

“The dignity of Afghanistan was important for me, and that was to be ensured, so I had to leave Afghanistan to prevent bloodshed, to make sure that a huge disaster was avoided.

“I left on the advice of government officials,” he said.

“Kabul should not be turned into another Yemen or Syria overpower struggle so I was forced to leave.”

Ghani insisted that he had only a waistcoat and a few garments when he left Kabul and that the claim is part of a campaign of character assassination against him.

“The accusations are baseless lies. You can even ask customs officials – they are baseless,” he claimed.

Ghani also stated that he wishes to return to Afghanistan to continue the fight for his nation.

He said, “I’m in the UAE so that disasters are avoided. I’m in consultation with others until I (can) return so that I can continue my efforts for justice for the Afghans.

“I have no intention to remain in exile.”
