Be Ready At All Times

Romans 6:12-18
Luke 12:39-48

We have a similar theme as that of yesterday in today’s Gospel passage- that of being ready for the coming of Christ. Using another illustration, Jesus talks about the arrival of the master and the attitude of the servant to buttress his point. Those who are prepared when the master returns will be happy and be glad. Those who have lived good lives will enter the kingdom with the Lord, whereas those who find themselves unprepared while living wicked and sinful ways, will not enter his kingdom because they did not repent. St. Paul speaks to us Christians about how, in Christ, we are “not under the law but under grace.” And then he says this: “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? Of course not!”

How are you preparing for the coming of the Lord? Are you doing your duties as expected of you? Remember, to whom much is given, much is expected. The demand will be great because as Christians we are privileged and gifted. We are privileged to hear the word of God and to be a witness to its values. We have been privileged because of the undying love of God and we have experienced it at every moment of our lives. Let us not presume or delay our repentance because we do not know the hour.
Let us, therefore, stand ready for we do not know what day or hour the Lord shall come.

May God keep us His ways and may we root out from ourselves whatever that will lead us to perdition. Amen.
