Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was visited by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, at the Sokoto Correctional Center on Thursday.
“Thank you so much, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, for taking the time to visit Mazi Nnamdi Kanu today. As the distinguished Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, your visitation symbolizes your solidarity & that of Sokoto Diocese with #MNK in this time of distress,” Sowore said.
Former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore commended the visit, calling it a show of solidarity. On November 20, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja found Kanu guilty of terrorism charges and sentenced him to life in prison.
The next day, he was transferred from Kuje Prison, where he had previously been detained, to the Sokoto Custodial Centre per a court order.
