Buhari Declares Asset After Leaving Office

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has provided the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) with his asset declaration form.

According to a tweet published by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, today, June 3, the CCB acknowledged receipt of the president’s paperwork.

All elected, appointed, recruited, and hired public personnel must complete the asset disclosure form, which is a schedule of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution (1999). All public officers are required to declare their assets and liabilities upon taking office and at the end of their term. Declarants are required by law to list their assets and liabilities, including those of their spouses who are not public officers and children under the age of 18, and to submit them to the bureau within 30 days of receiving the forms.

Garba revealed that the completed declaration form revealed that Buhari’s movable assets did not rise, either in Nigeria or abroad and that he did not open new bank accounts other than the one he already had at Union Bank in Kaduna. He also stated that the former President has taken no loans and has no liabilities and that the number of animals on his farm has decreased slightly due to the number of gifts he has given away in the last four years.

“Former President Muhammadu Buhari has submitted his assets declaration forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, in line with Chapter 6 of the constitution.

“The CCB today issued an acknowledgement receipt.

“The completed declaration shows that his movable assets did not increase, at home in Nigeria or outside and did not add new bank accounts outside the only one he had in Union Bank, Kaduna. He has taken no loans and has no liability.

“The number of animals in his farm recorded a little decrease due to the number he gave out as gifts in the last four years.”
