WELCOMING JESUS INTO OUR HEARTS
Wishing everyone a happy Christmas! We celebrate the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, beginning today and continuing for twelve days, ending with the Epiphany—the arrival of the three wise men. Today marks the birthday of the King of kings, the most important birthday of all.
Saint John’s account of the Word made flesh invites reflection. When Christ was born, did that mean a gap in heaven? Did the Son leave the Father behind? These questions touch on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity. Without overloading with theology, a few points can enrich our meditations during Christmas.
Before time began, God the Father eternally begot His Son, whose life has always poured from the Father’s heart—no beginning, always present, with the Holy Spirit, long before creation. This helps us glimpse the mystery and beauty of Christmas. The Son born of Mary existed from eternity in the Father’s bosom. His birth on earth marks His entry into our time and history as the living expression of the Father’s love.
Mary is central to today’s celebration; she is the gateway through which the Word enters the world. She is forever at the center with Jesus, enabling us to grasp, touch, and love God Incarnate. Mary’s role remains unique, central, and necessary.
In Holy Mass, the eternal begotten Son, born of the Virgin, is offered as a gift—A child is born, a Son is given. Through worship and Holy Communion, Christ dwells among us, warming and enlightening our hearts. We are privileged to become living tabernacles of His presence. On His birthday, He invites us to approach Him and invites us into His love. Like Mary and Joseph let us receive Him fully and experience the joy and hope only He can give.
