If God wishes, he could just sigh with anger over the evil deeds of men and with his command the whole universe will fade away at one instance. Was it that necessary to keep humans alive thus far, man who is wicked and sinful in hearts and deeds? With the domination of darkness and evil that covers the face of the earth, no one would wait for that long if he were God.
So the question is why is God so patient with such a wicked world with so much evil lurking every here and there. The psalmist offers an answer to this burning question- The Lord is compassion and love. The Lord is so good to us. He is kind and full of merciful love. He is the loving Father who cares for children. if it were men, the world would have been over by now. God is patient with us and can never be misled. His patience is a sign of his infinite love and mercy.
More so, we should always count our blessings rather than nag or complain about our situation like the Hebrew people in today’s first reading. They had easily forgotten the marvellous deeds the Lord had worked in their midst. God is our helper and we should be contented for he knows what we need before we ask him. Our complaint bars the doors of mercy for us so rather than nag and seek only material benefits we should seek to do the will of the Father and never forget all the blessings Je has bestowed upon us.
A man prevails only as he believes. The Holy Spirit is the author of faith, and strengthens it so that we pray to believe God’s promise so that this blessed combination of excellent graces, priceless and sweet as the spices of the merchant, might be fragrant within us because the Holy Spirit is in our hearts! Most blessed Comforter, exert thy mighty power within us, helping our infirmities in prayer.
