Canadian rapper; Drake, got caught up in a romantic moment during his performance in Sydney, Australia. He interrupted the event to draw attention to a couple’s engagement and offered to pay for their honeymoon in addition to giving the couple $25k to spend.
Following the fallout from his feud with Kendrick Lamar, who named-dropped him during his live Super Bowl Halftime performance, Drake is attempting to either repair his charitable reputation through his generosity or save face by lavishing his followers with cash. In any case, supporters are giddy with anticipation.
A couple in the crowd appeared on the big screen when Drake pointed camera operators in their direction. According to the rapper, the young man should “do what you do.” The fan proposed while on one knee, and the audience erupted in applause. With his partner’s acceptance, the two embraced and shared a kiss as Drake said, “Put the ring on her, man.” “Put that ring on her, man, you can kiss later.”
The ‘Hotline Bling’ rapper explained: “Maybe a long time ago we had somebody get married at one of our gigs, it’s been years, it’s been years.” He went on to say: “Listen, from me to you, from me to you, we’re sending you on a honeymoon wherever you want to go in the world, and I’m gonna give 25 bands. Congratulations!”
The gift comes days after he orchestrated a surprise gender reveal for one fan who held up a sign that said “Do my gender reveal!” promising the mother-to-be $50,000.
He also made a generous offering to another fan who held up a sign that read: “Adonis for President!” He said: “You’re showing a lot of love to my son. On behalf of me and Adonis … we’re going to give you 25 grand for your family.”
The gifting frenzy that Drake has been on is not new. The rapper was commended for his generosity when he donated the entire million-dollar budget for the music video for his song “God’s Plan” back in 2018. Throughout the movie, he was seen delivering stacks of cash to people, buying a complete store’s worth of food for customers, giving away scholarships, donating toys, and purchasing a brand-new automobile for a family.
As the rapper continues his tour, it appears that a few fortunate fans who are in the right position at the right moment and holding up the appropriate sign could win a fortune.
The 16-stop Australian leg of Drake’s Anita Max Win Tour began in Perth on February 4 and ends in Auckland on March 16. He released his most recent album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, a collaboration with PartyNextDoor, on Valentine’s Day.
