Enyimba Sack Head Coach Yemi Olarenwaju After Dismal Run

Yemi Olarenwaju, the head coach of Enyimba, was fired following a terrible run of games for the Peoples Elephant.

Enyimba used the heavy stick after the record-holding Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions had lost nine straight games.

“Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olarenwaju,” the club said in a Saturday statement posted on their social media platforms.

“The club thanks Coach Olarenwaju for his services and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.”

After George Finidi left for his lackluster brief tenure as head coach of the Super Eagles, Enyimba hired Olanrewaju in May.

Olanrewaju managed Enyimba for 26 games, winning nine of them and losing seven. Days after the NPFL goalless draw between the nine-time Nigerian champions and Plateau United, he was fired.

The Aba-based team has drawn six of their past league games and lost their last nine games in all competitions. In ten NPFL games, they have only managed one victory. Enyimba is ranked eleventh in in the domestic league after fifteen matches with twenty three points.

Meanwhile, the club has named Stanley Eguma as the new head coach. He was part of the team’s coaching crew in the early 2000s when Enyimba won two CAF Champions League crowns.

He is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear for the People’s Elephant and revive their fortunes both domestically and on the continental scene.
