Five Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested In Jigawa

Five armed robbery suspects have been detained by the Jigawa State Police Command at various places in the state’s Ringim and Dutse Local Government Areas.

In a statement released on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the command’s spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the arrest came as a result of the command’s stepped-up efforts to reduce motorcycle robberies and other criminal activities in the state.

“On 09th July 2023 at about 2000hrs, one Ashiru Musa ‘m’ age 24yrs of Kyaran village Dutse LGA, reported that on the same date at about 18:30hrs while riding his motorcycle around Rafawa to Darau Mallam Musa Road, Dutse LGA,” the statement read.

“He inquired of the cyclist to lead him to Karnaya village, but unfortunately, the said cyclists forced him to stop, threatened him with knives, and robbed him of his motorcycle boxer red in colour with reg no. AYE 918 UP Ogun State.

“On receipt of the report, the patrol team attached to Fanisau Division swiftly swung into action with the assistance of hunters and arrested one Tijjani Haruna ‘m’ age 19yrs, and one Baballe Abdulrahman ‘m’ age 25yrs, all of Gyabiya village Dutse LGA.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to the offence allegedly against them, while the knives, cable, and robbed motorcycle were found in the possession of the five.”

After the investigation is over, the individuals will be charged with crimes and prosecuted, the police official stressed.

In a related development, on July 1, acting on a tip-off, a group of police officers from Ringim Division detained Ahmadu Audu, Shuaibu Bayeri, and Samaila Musa, all 20 years old, of Majiyawar Kirdau village, Ringim LGA, for alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and causing great bodily harm.

During the course of the inquiry, the suspects admitted to robbing a number of motorcycles out of Ringim Local Government Area and nearby LGAs. They also revealed additional gang members and the receiver in Gezawa LGA of Kano State.

According to the PPRO, all suspects will be brought up in court and subjected to the full force of the law.
