God’s Mercy Endures Forever!

Saturday of week 15 in Ordinary Time

Exodus 12:37-42
Psalm 135(136):1,10-15,23-24
Matthew 12:14-21

Today, we dive into a thrilling journey through the Old Testament and the Psalms, where we relive the dramatic exodus of the Israelites from Egypt! Picture the astounding miracles and mighty works that the Lord unleashed to free His people from captivity. To the Israelites, these events were nothing short of glorious wonders. But when we shift perspectives to the Egyptians, we see a chilling tale of suffering and despair. Reconciling these two sides of the story is no easy feat! Are God’s enduring mercies reserved for just a select few?

The answer leaps into action in our Gospel reading! Here we find a striking twist—those same descendants of the Israelites, saved by divine intervention, are now seeking to bring death to Jesus, the ultimate Giver of Life. It’s a shocking turn of events, yet the prophet Isaiah reveals the underlying brilliance of God’s plan. Through Jesus’ sacrificial death, instigated by the Jews, He opens the doors of victory and hope for the Gentiles! The very death that liberated Israel from Egypt is fully redeemed in Jesus’ Passion—a powerful testament to God’s boundless love for every single person!

As we navigate our own lives filled with trials and tribulations, let’s remember that our current sorrows do not define the entire narrative. The Lord is working for our good, even amidst our pain! No matter how daunting the darkness may appear, a greater truth shines through. For each of us, in every situation, God’s mercy is a beacon that endures forever!
