Governor Otti Pledges Support For Climate Change Initiatives In Abia

Abia State Governor; Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed his administration’s readiness to partner with stakeholders in promoting climate change initiatives in the state. This commitment was reiterated during a meeting with a delegation from the Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office – Partnership Agile Governance and Climate Change (FCDO-PAGE) in his office.

A New Era of Collaboration

Governor Otti emphasized the importance of collaborating with experts like FCDO-PAGE to develop practical solutions and mitigate the effects of climate change. He assured the delegation that his team would work closely with them to identify the best approaches to addressing climate change challenges.

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to disciplined governance, climate action, and evidence-based policy implementation. He stressed the need for structures that would ensure efficiency and sustainability in the transition to renewable energy.

Abia’s Progress on Climate Change

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, highlighted the Governor’s commitment to climate change initiatives, noting that Abia State has been ranked 8th out of 36 states in climate change initiatives. He also mentioned that the state has been selected for an award on circular economy by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The National Team Lead of FCDO-PAGE, Mr. Ifeanyi Peters Ugwuoke, expressed the organization’s readiness to partner with the Abia State Government on climate change initiatives.
