“High Treason”: PDP’s Turaki Faces Backlash for Seeking Trump’s Intervention in Nigeria’s Politics

Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has slammed Kabiru Turaki, newly elected chairman of a PDP faction, for appealing to US President Donald Trump to intervene in Nigeria’s political affairs. Onanuga described Turaki’s action as “high treason” and accused him of seeking foreign involvement in the country’s internal party dispute.

Turaki had urged Trump to save Nigeria’s democracy, citing concerns over alleged Christian persecution. However, Onanuga warned that Turaki’s request would be remembered as a “dark moment” in Nigeria’s political history, emphasizing that the country’s democracy must be protected from foreign interference.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has also condemned Turaki’s appeal, calling it “reckless” and “unpatriotic”. The party accused Turaki of seeking to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability.

Turaki’s actions have sparked controversy, with some critics questioning his loyalty to Nigeria. The incident highlights the intense political tensions within the PDP and the country’s broader struggle with democratic governance.
