Is It Wrong To Do Good On Sabbath Day?

Ephesians 4:32-5:8
Luke 13:10-17

What is wrong in doing good on a Sabbath day? Why do we begrudge charity. Nothing in the law forbids good deeds. As Jesus was teaching in the synagogue, he saw a woman who has being possessed by a spirit for twelve years. She was bent double and was not able to stand straight. Here Jesus finds himself in the midst of a situation where good needs to be done. Who will love and care for her sake of God the creator himself. Christ immediately healed her of her infirmity. Indeed, the Lord is close to the broken hearted those whose spirit is crushed he saves. Psalm 38:14.

On the contrary, the synagogue official was blinded to charity because of his hatred of Jesus. He was indignant without considering the wonders God has done. Jesus points out their hypocrisy and their uncharitable attitude towards perseveration of life. Doing something good for the glorification of God’s name does not bend or go against the law and the rituals of the Sabbath

We all know that laws are important, but they should never get in the way of doing good. Yes, we need laws and traditions to guide us, but if they become obstacles to love, justice, mercy and charity they need to be scrutinized. Some of our customs needs to be scrutinized. As scripture tells us today You were in darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; be like children of light.

Let us take part or follow the counsel of the wicked or sit in the company of s corners. Let us avoid ways of the wicked ones and serve the Lord through our charitable deeds and holiness of life.
Nothing attracts God’s mercy like humility.  Let us come before the Lord with a humble heart seeking mercy before his presence like the woman that was enfeebled. Pope St John XX111 has a beautiful quote on our need of God’s merciful love.  “I live by the mercy of Jesus, to whom I owe everything and from whom I expect everything.”  God loves us with merciful love. “Pope John continues “There is nothing more man needs than Divine Mercy – that love, which is benevolent, which is compassionate, which raises man above his weakness to the infinite heights to the holiness of God.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
