*Kebbi Residents Rush to Register as INEC Launches Second Phase of Continuous Voter Registration*
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the second phase of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Kebbi State, drawing large crowds of residents eager to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of upcoming elections.
According to INEC officials, the exercise, which began on Monday, August 26, 2025, is taking place across all 21 local government areas of the state. The commission has deployed additional registration kits and personnel to handle the surge in turnout, with many centers recording long queues as early as 8 a.m.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kebbi, Alhaji Abubakar Sarkin-Pawa, confirmed that the CVR includes fresh registrations for eligible citizens who have turned 18, as well as transfers, corrections, and replacements of lost or damaged PVCs. He urged residents to take advantage of the exercise, emphasizing that voter registration is a critical step toward ensuring participation in the democratic process.
Community leaders and civil society organizations have also been mobilizing residents, particularly youths and women, to participate in the exercise. Many registrants expressed optimism that obtaining their PVCs would enable them to vote for leaders of their choice in future elections.
Security agencies have been stationed at registration centers to maintain order and ensure a smooth process. INEC has assured the public that the exercise will run for several weeks, with possible extensions to accommodate large numbers of applicants.
The CVR comes as part of INEC’s nationwide effort to update the voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Kebbi State being one of the key states in the North-West political zone.
