Kidnapping: Victim Rescued And Suspect Arrested In Ogun

A kidnapping suspect has been apprehended alive and the victim has been rescued in Ogun by the Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, better known as So-Safe Corps.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 14, the Office of the State Commander of the Corps, Commander (Dr) Soji Ganzallo, communicated this to news media through the office of the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.

According to Ganzallo, on July 13, 2023, the Corps’ headquarters ordered the Ijebu Zonal Command, headed by ACC Marcus Ayankoya, to rescue a woman who had been abducted at around 10 a.m. while returning from the market.

The commander remarked that he gave his men orders to act swiftly, capture the kidnapping offenders, and make sure the victim gained freedom immediately. They then quickly pursued the offenders. He said that while the operation was underway, the State Headquarters of the Corps received a briefing that the kidnappers had taken the victim’s car, phone, gold jewellery, N100,000 in her possession, and one ATM card.

Due to logistical difficulties, the team was unable to catch up with them. Ganzallo added that the crew didn’t give up until they discovered a set of peculiar footprints at the Oke-Ako Community in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

“The Commander then instructed the Isiwo/Itamapako Divisional Officer of the Corps, SC Aderibigbe M.O to mobilize and lead his Special Squad to deal with the suspected kidnappers decisively. The kidnappers were tracked down after a rigorous search for them as they tried to move the victim to a new location.

“There was a gun duel between the crime suspects and the corps before the criminals bowed to the superior response of the corps, while one of the kidnappers, who is 32 years old named Tunde Salami and a resident of Ibadan, Oyo State was captured alive and the kidnap victim was rescued unhurt. The rescued victim was traumatized but not harmed. One locally-made pistol was also recovered from the suspect,” he said.

Ganzallo stated that the suspect and the victim had been sent to the Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force for additional investigation and maybe prosecution.
