Lagos Civil Servants To Work 3 Days A Week To Reduce Hardship

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state, has declared that civil servants from levels 1-14 will begin working three days a week as part of initiatives to alleviate residents’ economic concerns.

He spoke during a live media conference titled ‘Sanwo Speaks’ to inform residents about efforts being done to lessen the economic burden on Lagosians after President Bola Tinubu stopped the petrol subsidy regime and harmonised exchange rates in 2023.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed that the state government is arranging for civil personnel at levels 1-14 to only work from their respective offices three days a week.

He stated that individuals on levels 15-17 will report to their offices four times per week.

“From next week, we are working out a plan where civil servants from level 1 to 14 will come to the office a maximum of three times in a week,” the governor said. “Not that all forms of government will be shut down. It will be calendared and scheduled. Those on levels 15 to 17 will miss work for one day.”

According to Sanwo-Olu, instructors at the state’s public schools would continue to work five days a week due to the nature of academic activity.

The Lagos governor said that his administration will provide greater transport support to public school teachers.

He announced a 25% cut in state-owned transport services beginning this weekend and stated that his administration will consider fare reductions with transport unions.

Sanwo-Olu stated that the state will designate caterers and “mama put” outlets in each LGA to serve at least 1,000 people daily.

He also stated that his administration will open “Sunday markets” in at least 42 recognised marketplaces, allowing citizens to purchase food items at a 25 per cent discount.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
