The Afrobeat musician Lil Kesh has opened up about his long-standing struggles with mental health, including his battles with anxiety and suspected ADHD.
The artist revealed in an interview that, although he has never been officially diagnosed, he thinks he has ADHD.
Lil Kesh considered how his personal and professional lives have been shaped by his symptoms, which have existed from boyhood.
He said, “I don’t like to identify as ADHD, but I have ADHD. I diagnosed myself, but trust me, I know.
“Everybody has a particular level of ADHD to them. But it’s bad when it is a disorder. I’ve had my fair share of that disorder right from when I was a kid.
“I feel like not knowing, lack of clarity… that’s one thing that can give me anxiety. Once I know what it is that I’m dealing with or what type of emotion I’m actually feeling or what my problem really is, that is half solved,” he added.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. Symptoms of ADHD include inattention (not being able to keep focus), hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought).
