Lord, Make My Heart A Rich Soil

1 Cor 15:35-37,42-49
Luke 8:4-15

Jesus made much use of ‘parables’: ‘Earthly stories with Heavenly meanings’ or a simple story that holds a spiritual truth. Today’s gospel is about the parable of the Sower and the seed. The seed is the Word of God, who is the highest good and supreme goodness. It has the potential to change lives now and for all eternity. There are interlocking triple portions in the parable;-There is the sower, the seed and the soil. There are four types of soil here from the parable;

Hard path-unresponsive person.
Rocky soil-impulsive person.
Thorny path-preoccupied person.
The fertile soil -responsive and productive persons who bear fruits through their perseverance.

The seed which God sows, therefore, cannot be anything but good seed.The type of hearts on which we have received His Word, sown in us, will determine the kind of fruit we will reap or the amount of harvest that we will receive. What kind of seed have you been sowing? This passage is not just about people outside of the church. This passage is about all of us. Every time we hear the word of God – or read the scriptures – we each have these same four options. What kind of soil will God’s word find in our lives? This is a daily choice for every one of us to make here today. We must face the fact that keeping our faith alive is a matter of clearing the weeds and tending the soil daily and at all times.

We remain on earth as sowers to scatter good seed; as ploughmen to break up the fallow ground; as heralds publishing salvation. We are here as the “salt of the earth,” to be a blessing to the world. We are here to glorify Christ in our daily life through our obedience and perseverance. We are here as workers for him, and as “workers together with him.” Let us see that our life answer its end and purpose. Let us live earnest, useful, holy and fruitful lives, to the praise of the glory of God’s grace. Amen.

Not everyone we speak to will respond positively, but do not keep the message of the Kingdom to yourself. Keep spreading the seed like the sower
