Man City Passes Real Madrid As Most Valuable Football Brand

Treble-chasing Manchester City has surpassed Real Madrid in terms of global football brand value.

If the Premier League team defeats Inter Milan on Saturday, they will add the Champions League to their Premier League title and FA Cup victory, increasing their brand value this year by 15% to £1.29 billion.

This allowed them to surpass the current European champions Real Madrid, whose brand worth declined three per cent to £1.26 billion, per a Brand Finance report.

Real Madrid is still the most recognizable brand in football, according to Brand Finance, and is most likely to be regarded by supporters as “the best club in the world.”

Barcelona came in third place, moving up five per cent to £1.185 billion in brand value, while Manchester United surpassed Liverpool to claim fourth place.

United is now valued at £1.174 billion (up 11%), and Liverpool is now worth £1.173 billion (up 9%).

According to the report, Erik Ten Hag’s tenure at United had “reconnected the team with the fans and laid the foundation for a renewed bid for future success.”

The sixth and seventh places were held by Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, and the top ten was completed by three Premier League teams: Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea.

Following their successful championship defence in the Premier League, Arsenal’s brand worth increased 16% to £782 million.

Chelsea’s value had increased by 2% to £742 million as a result of a dismal season and lower-half position, placing them as the sixth-highest English club. The valuation of Spurs increased by 5% to £774 million.

Brentford and Fulham, two more London-based teams, were ranked 43rd and 49th in Brand Finance’s top 50 tables, respectively.

Following their Saudi takeover in 2021, Newcastle United’s brand worth increased by 33% to £216 million, making it the club with the fastest-growing reputation among British clubs.

Hugo Hensley, Head of Sports Services at Brand Finance, said: “Manchester City has achieved an extraordinary feat by surpassing Real Madrid to become the champion of football club brands.

“For five years, the City team has exerted its dominance in English football, securing four Premier League titles in the past five seasons.

“However, the club’s performance in this year’s ranking highlights that Manchester City are performing off the pitch in terms of building a strong brand and attracting fans and sponsors, and setting the stage for what could be an iconic Champions League final against Inter Milan.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
