A man was reportedly fatally stabbed on the dance floor of a nightclub in Birmingham, on Boxing Day, where he was “enjoying a night out with friends.”
A “group of people” allegedly approached the man at the Crane nightclub on Adderley Street in Digbeth, who was then attacked, severely bruised, and died as a result of the injuries.
He was pronounced dead around 30 minutes later after the West Midlands Police were called to the scene shortly before 11.45 p.m., having received reports of a stabbing in the area.
The police confirmed the murder and stated that an investigation has been opened, however, no suspect has been detained as of now.
Detectives are looking at surveillance footage from the nightclub, which was hosting an event with British musicians Steve Lawler and Mason Maynard and Italian DJ Marco Carola.
Footage from inside the club showed throngs of people dancing to the music amidst bright lights before the stabbing took place.
As of today, the scene is still sealed as police gather evidence, and in the coming days, neighbourhood patrols will be intensified.
According to Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, who is in charge of the investigation, “This was a young man enjoying himself with friends on a Boxing Day night out and our thoughts are with his friends and family today.
“We know there were hundreds of people in the nightclub at the time. While we’ve spoken to a number of them already, we still need to hear from anyone who was there and who witnessed or even filmed what happened.
“We believe that the victim was approached by a group of people, and was then stabbed, so we’re working hard to identify all of those involved.”
West Midlands Police has encouraged anyone with information or who was in the area at the time to contact them.
