A night‑time prayer vigil at a church in the Ibeku area of Umuahia, Abia State, turned chaotic when a man armed with a cutlass stormed the service, demanding that it stop because of the loud noise. According to a viral video shared on X, the suspect entered the sanctuary, brandished the weapon, and shouted at worshippers to leave, causing panic and forcing congregants to back away while pleading with him.
Witnesses say the man’s frustration stemmed from repeated complaints about the church’s loud music and prayers that kept residents awake after work. He confronted the worshippers, ordering them to “go out” and warning that the noise was unbearable. Residents and church members quickly intervened, and the suspect was later handed over to security operatives.
The incident has reignited debate on noise pollution, religious tolerance, and community safety in Abia, with online commentators split between condemning the violent approach and sympathizing with the man’s grievance over unrelenting night‑time noise.
