Manchester United Appoint Ruben Amorim As New Head Coach

Manchester United has named Ruben Amorim as its next head coach.

The 39-year-old Portuguese, who will join Old Trafford from Lisbon club Sporting on November 11, has signed a contract until June 2027, with an option for an additional year.

On November 24, he will take control of his first United encounter at Ipswich.

Amorim replaces Erik ten Hag, who was fired last month, while Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to coach the first team until Amorim arrives.

In a statement, the club said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements.

“He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.

“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins.”

Amorim, a former Benfica and Portugal midfielder, retired from playing in 2017 and began his managerial career at Braga two years later.

The Portuguese then joined Sporting in March 2020, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most sought-after young coaches and leading the team to two Primeira Liga titles.

Amorim has also won the Taca da Liga, or Portuguese League Cup, three times: twice with Sporting and once with Braga.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
