May You Encounter The Healing Power Of Christ

Mark 3:7-12

In Mark’s Gospel, as Jesus went about, he was healing and casting out demons. His reputation preceded him and as we can see in today’s Gospel reading, people were coming from Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and beyond the Jordan – quite amusing-people were swarming from every direction!  Jesus is worried about the size of the crowd so he decided to be on a boat so that they can catch a sight of him and receive healing as well.

The demons fell to the ground and cried out ‘You are the Son of God’.  Does that have the same attraction? If Jesus is the Son of God, what does that mean for me?  How do I enter into that? What is going to let me in? It’s much easier, safer even to come to the ‘miracle worker’, let him touch me and cure me, and then I can go my merry way.  Who is Jesus for me? But if he is the ‘son of God’ do I have to stick around, do I have to believe?  Follow?  Convert? Change my ways even? Do I have a relationship or is it easier just to ask for help every once and a while?  What ‘miracle’ do I need to grow my relationship with the Son of God? Could it take me to places that I can never imagine? Will I bear true witness to Christ?
