Met Gala: Kim Kardashian Accused Of Damaging Marilyn Monroe’s Iconic Dress

Kim Kardashian has been accused of causing damage to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress, which she wore at the Met Gala in 2022.

The Marilyn Monroe Collection has accused Kardashian of causing damage to the dress, as well as Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum, which loaned it to her.

Monroe donned the crystal-studded gown to sing Happy Birthday to US President John F. Kennedy in 1962, and Kardashian wore it on the red carpet for one of the year’s most renowned celebrity events.

Kim lost 16 pounds in order to get into the gown, which couldn’t be altered owing to its age and reputation.

Kim showed up with bleached blonde hair and her new boyfriend, comedian Pete Davidson, on the night.

After walking the red carpet, the reality tv star changed into a replica to protect the 60-year-old gown, but there were worries raised at the time about potential harm to an iconic piece of history.

The Marilyn Monroe Collection turned to Instagram on Monday, June 14 to showcase “before” and “after” photos of the garment purportedly ruined after Kim’s outing. Near the clasps at the back of the gown, there are misplaced crystals and stretched fabric.

The Marilyn Monroe Collection wrote, “So much for keeping ‘the integrity of the dress and the preservation’. Was it worth it?”

The caption was accompanied by recent quotes from Ripley’s officials outlining their attempts to preserve the exhibit in preparation for Kardashian’s red carpet arrival.

“Great care was taken to preserve this piece of pop culture history. With input from garment conservationists, appraisers, and archivists, the garment’s condition was top priority. Believe It or Not! no alterations were to be made to the dress and Kim even changed into a replica after the red carpet!”

“A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
