A mother along with her five children tragically perished when a building collapsed amid heavy rainfall in Dankama village, located in the Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The collapse took place around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, while the victims were sleeping.
The husband and father of the victims, Muhammad Sani, verified the devastating incident to journalists in Katsina.
He revealed that three other individuals were taken to the hospital with injuries of varying severity sustained during the collapse.
Sani shared that he was not at home when the incident occurred and was deeply shocked upon receiving the news.
“This affected about 10 people, but sadly, six didn’t survive. Three are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” he told journalists.
The deceased were named as Mariya Sani, 45; Mujahid, 20; Zahariya, 18; Hauwa, 15; Amira; and Nura Sani, aged five.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the tragedy has sparked profound sorrow throughout the community.
Numerous sympathizers have visited the family’s home in Dankama to express their condolences and provide support.
Sani conveyed his resignation to the tragedy, stating, “I surrender to Allah’s will. May He grant them eternal rest.”
The Executive Secretary of Katsina State Emergency Management Agency, Hajiya Binta Dangani, who confirmed the incident, noted that agency officials had been sent to offer condolences to the family and evaluate the damages for appropriate follow-up actions.
