Psalm 99(100)
John 19:25-27
O Mother of Sorrows-intercede for us.
The devotion to the Blessed Virgin stems from the loving heart of her son, who entrusted Mary to the beloved disciple as a mother figure for us all. Jesus offered himself completely for our salvation, embodying an enduring love for humanity. In light of this, what remains to be offered on earth? Perhaps only the last member of the Holy Family-His beloved Mother. We can never love Mary more than Jesus did, for Mary’s YES to God was wholehearted from the beginning, sharing in the mystery of the Lord’s passion.
In gratitude, we acknowledge the salvation wrought by Christ through His shedding of blood, and through Mary—Our Lady of Sorrows—we are enveloped in an inexhaustible source of grace, becoming increasingly aware of His limitless sacrificial love for all of us.
The profound mystery of our devotion is underscored by Pope John Paul II, who spoke on Our Lady of Sorrows and encouraged us to cultivate a sincere devotion to her, saying:
“Turn your eyes incessantly to the Blessed Virgin; she, who is the Mother of Sorrows and also the Mother of Consolation, can understand you completely and assist you. By looking to her and praying to her, you will find that your weariness transforms into serenity, your anguish into hope, and your grief into love.”
PRAYER
O Mother of Sorrows, who reflects the smile of God, the light of Christ, and the presence of the Holy Spirit, kindly smile upon us and pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
