Motherhood: Gratitude – An Important Virtue Needed For Children’s Emotional Growth 5

It is pertinent for mothers to talk to their children about being grateful if they receive a tangible gift or are treated kindly by someone. Also, talking to our children about the people and things we are grateful for in our lives, might help you initiate conversations that demonstrate how you both feel and react to them.

A 2010 study that appeared in Clinical Psychology Review connected gratitude to everything from enhanced psychological well-being to enhanced physical health. Grateful people typically have better sleep patterns and even live longer.

According to a 2018 study that was published in the Journal of Positive Psychology, adults who feel appreciative are happier and more hopeful. Compared to other concepts such as forgiveness, patience, and even self-control, gratitude was a greater predictor of confidence and happiness.

Below is another step we can adopt to teach our children the act of gratitude.

1)Act kindly toward others:
You can teach your child different options for expressing their gratitude to others. This can entail paying back a favor, like lending a toy to a good friend, or it can entail performing a kind deed for a family member who goes to their basketball games, like mowing their garden.

Let them know that there are many methods to express their appreciation for acts of kindness to them.

You can even choose to start a family project, such as composing thank-you notes for the local emergency personnel following a natural disaster. Make it clear that they don’t only need to feel grateful for people they know directly only. They can also feel grateful for a lot of people in the community.

2) Give your kid some “green light” for being appreciative.

Reward gracious, compassionate behavior with attention, play, or other subtle nudges of support. This communicates to your child, For example; “I enjoy what you’re doing! “Keep it up!”
