MOTHERHOOD: PARENTING STYLES AND THEIR IMPACTS ON THE CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT

According to Wiktionary, Parenting is the act of raising and educating a child from birth until adulthood. While Freebase describes Parenting as the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood.

MOTHERHOOD: PARENTING STYLES AND THEIR IMPACTS ON THE CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT

Parenting style can be defined as the way parents communicate and discipline a child. It is the pattern adopted in raising children. The pattern adopted depends on the parent’s attitude and behavior. It forms the atmosphere under which children develop and grow. It also tends to form children’s attitudes.

The parenting style adopted in training a child is vital as it affects the child’s growth and development; emotionally, psychologically, and socially. It affects children’s growth and development in every way.

As Mothers, we often spend more time with our children compared to the time they spend with their fathers. Therefore, our parenting style tends to have more impacts on our children’s behavior. The adopted parenting style shapes who they become as they grow up.
There are different parenting styles, mothers, however, do not adopt just one type of parenting style, but combinations of them in raising their children.

What type of parenting style are you adopting? Does it have a good impact on the development of your child/children?

Watch out for my next episode where I will discuss one of the parenting styles and its effect on children’s growth and development.
