Motherhood: Patience In Parenting 8

Hello Great Mothers!

Parenting requires a lot of patience. Mothers must be patient with their children to butter them into well-balanced adultss. But it is all too easy to lose patience at times. It might be beneficial to think of patience as something that acts as a reminder that it is normal for children to make a lot of mistakes while they are young since they are still discovering and developing their unique combination of features and talents.

As mothers, oftentimes we hear ourselves repeating the same complaint to our children. Sometimes, we may be irritated by their attitude and our reactions show that we are sick of complaining, and correcting or disciplining them on the same issue.

A report by empowering parents teaches that nagging and scolding will not work since it teaches children to rely more on their parents rather than creating a feeling of responsibility in them. By nagging and scolding our children, we often believe we are teaching children responsibility, but in reality, we are simply preaching it.

However, as mothers, we are expected to function more as a mentor to our children as they grow up. A mentor stimulates and experiments with various teaching styles to meet the needs of an individual. And, to be a good mentor to our children, we must be patient with them.

We started the discussion on the importance of patience in parenting in my previous article, others are;

1) Aids effective communication:
Children see things differently than adults. A child’s brain simply hasn’t evolved enough to comprehend things or utilize the same logic as yours. You may need to repeat yourself or find fresh ways to explain things before they understand. In these situations, patience is essential. This is what will eventually help you understand how to communicate with the child in a way that they can understand.

2)Encourages Respect:
A mother must be viewed as an authority figure by her children. When you become furious at everything, they won’t take you seriously when something really important comes up that you need to take a strong stance on because they are used to you blowing things out of proportion.

When adults are patient with children, the children learn to be patient as well, which leads to greater life success.
