Newlywed Attacked And Killed By Shark While On Honeymoon

A shark attacked a newlywed paddle boarding at a Sandals resort in the Bahamas, killing her just one day after her wedding.

The woman, who has not been recognised, died on Monday morning, December 4, around 11:15 a.m. local time.

The tragedy occurred just a short distance from the opulent Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort.

The victim was accompanied by a male relative, thought to be her husband, according to local reports. Her paddleboard was later seen floating in the water.

The woman suffered horrible injuries on the right side of her body, and CPR attempts were ineffective.

According to WCVB, she had only been married the day before the attack. Later, shocking photographs and footage leaked showing the victim’s lifeless body being taken back to the shore on a stretcher before being placed into an ambulance.

Royal Bahamian Police Sergeant Desiree Ferguson told reporters: “Shortly after 11.15 a.m. police were notified that a female visitor from Boston, Massachusetts, USA was attacked by a shark.

“According to our initial reports, the female along, with a male relative were paddle boarding just at the rear of a resort in Western New Providence, some 3/4 miles out from the shoreline when she was bitten by the shark.

“A lifeguard on duty who saw what was happening went out in a rescue boat, retrieved the victim, along with the male relative and brought them to safety CPR was administered to the victim.

“However she suffered serious injuries to the right side of her body, including the right hip region and also her right upper limb. Emergency Medical Services responded to this scene they thoroughly assessed the victim and they declared that she show she showed no vital signs of life.”

A jet ski operator told the Nassau Guardian that he saw the attack from the shore. “It was crazy because… I watched them push out from the beach,” he said of the pair.

“They were laughing and talking.” When he looked back, she was nowhere to be seen.

“When I saw it was only the guy standing on the board, I said she must have fallen off,” he said. “Then you could actually hear the faint shouts of him screaming for help.”

She stated that it took several hours to bring the woman in before bringing a wheelchair to retrieve the man who was thought to be her husband.

After witnessing the situation, a lifeguard deployed a boat to assist both people, however, the woman had significant injuries to her right side and was pronounced dead at the scene despite CPR attempts.

Although tiger sharks and bull sharks are known to reside off the coast of the Bahamas, it was not immediately obvious which sort of shark attacked the woman.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
