November 7th: Weekly Catch-Up On Naija’s Political Drama: US Court Release Heroine Indictment Documents Of Tinubu; Underaged Voters, Multiple Registration Found On INEC’s List; Documentary Of Tinubu’s Drug Trafficking Past In The US

US Court Releases Official Heroine Indictment Papers Of APC’s Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, was charged with cocaine trafficking and money laundering in 1993, according to court documents made public by the United States District Court.

The controversy surrounding the Ikirun-born former governor of Lagos State as a political figure with a history of drug dealing and money laundering was put to rest by this most recent event.

The US court in the district of Illinois, eastern division confirmed that Tinubu and his associates engaged in drug trafficking “on a large scale and the operations were substantial” in court documents released on August 10, 2022.

The money discovered in Tinubu’s accounts with Citibank and Heritage Bank, respectively, “represent proceeds of narcotics trafficking and further constitute property involved in money laundering in violation of 18 USC 1956 and 1957,” according to Magistrate Rijcklo, who approved the forfeiture order.

Nigerians have wasted no time in calling him out after the release of the document, questioning how an alleged drug lord is connecting to become the president of the nation.

Along with drug-trafficking allegations that have dogged him for years, Tinubu has also been accused of lying about his age and changing his school history in an obvious effort to fulfil his lifelong political ambition.

His desire to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 has recently reignited public interest in his past life.

Underage Voters, Multiple Registrations Found In INEC’s Voter List.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently issued the voters’ list for the 2023 election, which showed multiple registrations and the existence of underage voters as well as several irregularities that transpired during the Continuous Voters Registration.

The whole preliminary register, which contains 93,522,272 registrants, has been made available for public viewing on the INEC website from November 12 to November 25, a period of two weeks.

INEC reported in September that it found numerous instances of double, multiple, and ineligible registration during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) conducted between January 1 and July 31.

The commission also stated that 2,780,756 registrants were detected as being ineligible and were removed from the register following a rigorous data cleaning process utilizing the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

According to the commission, about 23 of the commission’s personnel were discovered to have contributed to voter double registration, stating that those officers will face harsh punishment.

However, an assessment of some of the states on the INEC-released voter list revealed that there are still inconsistencies in the voter list.

The voter list included false identities imported to vote in the 2023 election as well as multiple registrations, minors, and underage voters.

In the case of double and multiple registrations, the names, contact information, and photos of these individuals are the same, but their voter identification numbers differ (VINs).

Meanwhile, INEC asserted that multiple and double registrations were invalid and removed from the registry.
