Saturday of the 2nd week of Lent
Micah 7:14-15,18-20
Psalm 102(103):1-4,9-12
Luke 15:1-3,11-32

The theme of our readings today centers on the merciful and forgiving nature of God. In the first reading from the seventh chapter of the book of the prophet Micah. The prophet invokes God’s guidance and fidelity to His covenants. This passage emphasizes that God does not hold our transgressions against us permanently; rather, He extends forgiveness and liberates us from our sins.
The Gospel reading from the fifteenth chapter of St. Luke presents the Parable of the Prodigal Son, wherein the father symbolizes God, and the younger son represents humanity’s tendency to stray from divine will. The narrative illustrates the unconditional welcome the father extends upon the son’s return, reflecting God’s readiness to accept us back into grace regardless of our previous disobedience.
Conversely, the posture of the elder son serves as a cautionary example of the dangers of unforgiveness and self-righteousness, which can lead to estrangement from the father’s love. These readings compel us to engage in self-examination concerning our spiritual lives and urge us to seek reconciliation with God for any deviations from His intended path.
Regardless of when we choose to return, God’s arms are always open, waiting for us. Each of us must recognize the reality of our shortcomings and the sin that distances us from God. Jesus emphasizes that our loving Father is eager to forgive, provided we take the initiative to turn back toward Him. As we begin to reorient our lives by His will, we can trust that divine grace will abound, illustrating the profundity of God’s generosity.
For those struggling with feelings of shame or unworthiness due to past actions, it’s crucial to remember that we serve a God of immense compassion and forgiveness. Embracing this truth allows us to reintegrate Him into our lives, where He will come to us swiftly, welcoming us back into an intimate relationship. Despite our failings, God’s vision of us recognizes our inherent worth and potential.
Let us express gratitude for His unwavering love and pray for the strength to embody His qualities, striving to grow in His likeness each day.
Wishing everyone a grace-filled weekend.
