Peter Obi Tells FG To Declare Emergency Rule In Nigeria, Not Anambra

Former Anambra state governor; Peter Obi has asked FG to declare emergency rule in Nigeria and not Anambra State.

Recall that the Attorney-Generation of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, had said that the Federal Government (FG) would impose a state of emergency in Anambra State to tighten security ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.

Malami added that the FG will do everything possible to ensure the protection of lives and property, adding that where there is evidence of failure of the state government to ensure democratic order and security of lives, the Federal Government will prevail and will not rule out the possibility of imposing a state of emergency.

Peter Obi while reacting to the AGF’s statement in an interview on Arise Television, ‘The Morning Show, on Monday, said the Federal Government should resolve the problems of insecurity bewildering Nigeria in general and not a part of the country.

He said, “Even in government when they make a statement, they should always evaluate their statement and the implication, and the overall wellbeing of their statement.

“People don’t know that the greatest contributor to GDP (Gross Domestic Profit), growth is an intangible asset, which is security, law and order and even behaviour and the statements of the leaders.

“Their statement can actually hurt the economy and hurt the place. So, they should ensure that their words and their statement are something that has gone through scrutiny.

“Saying that they have to declare a state of emergency in Anambra State because of insecurity should actually mean, that you need to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria because of insecurity.

“So that statement from the Attorney General shouldn’t be. Also, he is the Attorney Generation of Federation, not the Attorney Generation of PDP or APC, but the federation. There is a position you are, you are now working as government,” the former governor stated.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
