Plateau Crisis: Sanwo-Olu Evacuates Lagos Students And A Mother With Her 3-Week Old Child From UNIJOS

In response to the recent attacks and deaths in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has evacuated a three-week-old infant, and her mother, together with undergraduate students of Lagos who were studying at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) in Plateau State following the crisis that took place in the state.

According to Daily Post, the first group of people to be evacuated, which included 64 UNIJOS students as well as Daniella, a three-week-old baby, who was reported to have been delivered shortly before the crisis in Plateau State by the mother, Manya Banfe, a 200-Level student, arrived in Lagos on Friday and met with the governor before being handed over to their families.

In Alausa, the Lagos State Secretariat, the students were escorted by security officers and government officials to their destination with their bags.

After meeting with the students who were evacuated, the Governor stated that the action demonstrates that the state government is capable of responding to any situation that affects the people of the state, particularly the youths of the state.

Ms. Gbenga Omotoso, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, spoke on behalf of the governor, who stated that welfare packages had been put in place for the students so that they may return home safely.

Clinton Shotikare, a 200-level student in the Department of Religion and Philosophy of the university, spoke on behalf of the UNIJOS students and expressed gratitude to the government for rescuing them despite fears of assaults in Plateau.

“On behalf of other students, I am saying a big thank you to the Lagos State Government, especially the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. We appreciate the Governor and the State Government for evacuating us from Plateau State. We feel happy, honored, grateful, and safe. We feel the impact of government,” he remarked.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
