Police In Lagos And Ogun State Unite To Form A Joint Patrol Over Crime On lagos-Ibadan Highway

Police in Ogun and Lagos states have completed preparations for the formation of a cooperative security patrol squad to combat criminal activity along the Lagos-Ibadan highway’s border region.

This was revealed on Wednesday by Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 and the Ogun State Police Command, during a familiarization tour of the police command.

It was determined that the combined operation team was essential when Kokumo arrived on the scene and discovered that there had been numerous reports of traffic robbery near the long bridge section of the highway.

It was his understanding that he had spoken with the police commissioners in the two states about the necessity for a unified action plan in order to combat traffic robbery in the area, which he had expressed to them.

He stated, “I observed on my resumption as the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 2 that there were reports of a robbery in traffic along the long bridge in the Lagos Ibadan expressway on the road to Mowe.

“Having observed this, we were asked to form a joint operation of Lagos and Ogun police personnel to address this, and you will have observed that in little time, it has become a thing of the past, we are no longer experiencing robbery along that road.

“We are also looking at the synergy between Lagos State Command and Ogun State Command because Zone 2 comprises these two states, we want to see joint operations between the two states in areas where they are needed,” he added.

“I have spoken to the CP and we have involved a plan, joint operations plan to ensure that traffic in the robbery along that side, that is the long bridge, Lagos Ibadan long bridge will be a thing of the past,” he said.
