Pope St Leo the Great

PHMN 7-20
LK 17:20-25

Today the Church celebrates one of the greatest Pope in the history of the Church. He wrote a lot of pastoral letters and encouraged everyone to serve God in humility and steadfastness. He called the Council of Chalcedon to condemn heresies such as Nestorianism, Monophysitism, Manichaeism, and Pelagianism. He maintains the orthodoxy and supremacy of the Church.

As a compassionate leader, Paul is someone who stand leaders on their toes. He challenges certain ideologies and behaviour that needed to be questioned from time to time, He wanted Onesimus not to be confused with condemned by his master as so he writes. How do you welcome me those who have trepass against us?

In our mission mandate, we are directed to set captives free. May we never minimize our serious responsibility to work for the freedom and autonomy of our sisters and brothers in our own country and around the world! It is a primary dictate of the Gospel to work for justice and peace. Given all that is happening today, there is more than enough crying out to be done, and as disciples we must commit ourselves to actively being involved.

At the same time, we need to continually look at ourselves, because there are also more easier ways of being held bound. Others are bigger issues, involving misplaced trust or security in things that don’t last, following “false prophets” who proclaim beliefs that are not in line with Jesus’ life and teaching, feeling entitled or self-righteous while turning a blind eye to those in need, or persisting in unhealthy relationships with people, gadgets, food, or substances. All claim more of our time, energy, and commitment than God wants and/or they keep us from being who God calls us. to be in this world.
Let us work for Christ! love, trust and obey Him for He is our good master.

Fr. Osho
