Prayer Helps Us To Do The Impossible

Col 2:6-15
Luke 6:12-19

Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer!-Joseph M. Scriven.

When I look at today’s readings the above-named song” What a Friend We Have in Jesus” comes to my mind. In today’s Gospel passage, after Jesus had spent all night praying to his Heavenly Father, He then chose his twelve apostles and went down with them to a level group where there was a gathering of his disciples a great crowd of people from all parts of Israel…people who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured and everyone in the crowd wanted to touch him because power came out from him(Luke 16:9). How is this possible? What is the source of such great power? The answer is Prayer.

The Lord wants us to understand the importance of prayer. Prayer is the source of Jesus’ healing power, his compassion, and his love. Prayer changes our lives and better our relationship with God. God never ignores our prayers. He attends to us at his own time. Therefore, How do I rate the quality of my prayer life? How do I improve in my prayer life? Do I pray for others or for myself alone? How much time do I spend in prayer?

Let us always pray at all times; for in prayer, we offer ourselves to God. Through prayer, we listen to his voice and notice his presence in the midst of our everyday activities and personal and collective decisions. To allow him to move us, shape us, and prevent us from getting too far from him.

May the Holy Name of Mary be always in our hearts and on our lips. Amen.
