Rivers State: Two Notorious Cultists Killed By Police In A Gunfight

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that two famous cultists who had been terrorizing portions of the state were killed in a gun battle by its officers.

An arrest was made at a community in Imo State, according to SP. Nnamdi Omoni, who stated in Port Harcourt yesterday, saying that the rest of the suspects were apprehended within the Emohua Local Government Area.

Omoni alleged that the suspects were tormenting the Ibaa hamlet and its neighborhood before meeting their demise and that they had slain a father and his son during their operations the previous week.

“The Rivers State Police Command, while acting on credible information, yesterday 2/9/2021 arrested one Goodluck Ezekwu ‘m’, AKA ‘Big Daddy’ a notorious cult gang leader terrorizing Ibaa Community in Emohua LGA, whose gang on 25/8/2021 killed one Amobi Oguzo ‘m’; his arch-rival and a biological son,” Omoni stated

“In the course of Investigation, he was arrested in Imo State and taken to custody. During interrogation, he made useful confessions and led the Police Team to Ibaa Community, where one Ebere Amesi and other members of the gang were hibernating.”

He said that as soon as they saw the police officers approaching, Ebere Amesi and his men charged at them, engaging them in a ferocious gun battle during which both Goodluck Ezekwu and Ebere Amesi were fatally shot.

They were rushed to the hospital right away, where they were pronounced dead by the doctors.

Following the incident, one AK47 rifle with Breech No:15422 and one Assault Rifle with Q701697A serial numbers, as well as three live rounds of ammunition, were recovered.

He stated that increased attempts have been made to apprehend the fleeing gang members and seize all of their functioning weapons.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has condemned the attack on the Police and directed the Commanders of the Tactical Units to beef up security in Ibaa Community and its environs while calling on the youth to shun Cultism and the good people of Emohua LGA and indeed other well-meaning people of the State to join hands with the Police, as we are irrevocably committed to rid the LGA and the entire State of all criminal elements.”
