Seek the merciful face of Jesus and not those who oppose him

Today is the feast of St. Agnes, who found her purpose early, saying, “I have found him whom my soul loves.” This fueled her purity and closeness to God. When trials came, she embraced martyrdom. Agnes reminds us that chastity is a gift from God; some see celibacy as dull or impossible, but for Christians, it is God’s will: “Not my will but yours be done.” What acts of love, peace, and forgiveness will I do today?

We also observe Jesus’ love when he enters a synagogue with a man having a withered hand. While needing healing, the Pharisees see only a Sabbath law violation, hoping Jesus will heal to accuse him. Jesus asks, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath?” showing laws shouldn’t hinder goodness. Laws are vital, but if they block love and mercy, they must be broken. Jesus, angry at the Pharisees’ legalism, teaches that following him requires being a healer and showing mercy. Opposing mercy is opposing Jesus.
