CHARITY IS INTEGRAL TO SPIRITUAL PURITY

Upon completing his discourse, Jesus Christ, our Teacher, Guide, and Savior, was invited to dine at the house of a Pharisee. Before partaking in the meal, there was a ceremonial handwashing. Rather than focusing on the act of hospitality and gratitude towards God for hosting Jesus, the Pharisees became fixated on Jesus not observing the handwashing tradition.

This unexpected reaction from the host provoked and disgusted Jesus, jeopardizing the initial act of generosity. In the Gospel passage, Jesus suggests that charity is integral to spiritual purity, emphasizing that acts of giving lead to overall cleanliness.

He emphasizes the importance of faith and conviction in one’s actions, asserting that charity has the power to absolve a multitude of sins. Therefore, striving for inner and outer purity is essential, as cleanliness is closely linked to holiness.

The Pharisees in the gospel passage demonstrated a superficial relationship with Jesus. Although Jesus was physically present in the Pharisee’s home, his actions did not reflect a genuine acceptance of Christ in his heart.

In our journey of faith, our beliefs must lead to a deeper love and devotion to Christ. By dedicating ourselves to worshiping the Creator, we recognize the necessity of returning all things to Him, acknowledging His sovereignty over the visible and invisible realms. This unwavering faith is the cornerstone of our profession.
