Saturday of the 4th week of Eastertide

THERE IS NO HIGHER CALLING THAN TO BE CHRIST’S HANDS, AND FEET IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW -IGNITE YOUR DAY WITH THE LOVE OF GOD PLACED IN YOUR HEART

Acts 13:44-52
Psalm 97(98):1-4
John 14:7-14

There is a prayer of St. Theresa of Avila that is perfect for our gospel today: “Now Christ has no body on earth but yours; now Christ has no hands here on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which his compassion looks out on the world; yours are the feet which carry him now on his way; yours are the hands which touch his people today.”

We can truly embrace this prayer and bring it to life every single day, thanks to the incredible promise Jesus shared in today’s gospel: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these…”

What a thrilling way to live! There is no higher calling than to be the hands, eyes, feet, and heart of Christ in our world right now. The world is crying out for unwavering hope, resilient compassion, and bold mercy. It needs that brilliant, darkness-shattering light that shines through us when we let Jesus work within us. This is significant in a world that often feels broken, anxious, and weighed down by despair.

Every act of mercy, justice, compassion, truth, forgiveness, faith, hope, and unconditional love—no matter how small—is a powerful re-creation. They are fresh starts and unexpected bursts of Easter life, empowered by the resurrected Christ living and moving through us, constantly healing, liberating, and making everything whole.

In today’s first reading from Acts, Paul, and Barnabas energize their mission to the Gentiles, declaring: “For so the Lord has commanded us, I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.” Imagine the transformation that could occur if we kicked off each day with the prayer, “How am I called to be an instrument of salvation today?” By doing so, we would embody the living proof of Jesus’ promise that “whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these.” Why not give it a shot? Let’s ignite the day with purpose and excitement!
