DO NOT LOOSE SIGHT OF YOUR CALLING

In our Gospel reading, Jesus delivers a powerful message that challenges us to reflect on our values and behavior. He points to the Pharisees and scribes, saying, “Therefore, do and observe everything they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens that are hard to carry and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to help.” Jesus exposes the hypocrisy of religious leaders who crave the spotlight, seeking honor at banquets and coveted seats in synagogues. He flips our understanding upside-down with the truth: “The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

This is a thrilling invitation to rethink privilege! The Pharisees basked in their status, but what about us? When we become obsessed with our own advantages, we risk losing sight of our true calling: to serve others. Jesus, in His wisdom, reminds us that greatness lies not in self-importance but in selflessness.

Are we sometimes tempted to lift ourselves by putting others down? It’s a seductive trap to justify our biases by casting aside those who seem different. Yet, when we remember how Jesus humbled Himself for our sake, we can break free from these shackles and embrace a life dedicated to service. Our mission isn’t about clinging to privilege; it’s about following in Jesus’ footsteps and aligning ourselves with God’s will. Let’s choose to elevate our hearts by serving!
