Six Yahoo Boys Kidnap Student Over Fraudulent Proceedings

The Bauchi State Police Command detained six alleged online scammers for kidnapping Ojo Tobi David, a 400-level student at Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG).

SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, that the suspects kidnapped the student as a result of a disagreement over the splitting of $33800 gained in the fraud transaction.

According to the PPRO, one of the six suspects, Damilola James, fell while attempting to flee and was rushed to the hospital for quick medical assistance, but a medical practitioner certified him dead.

“Based on inter-agency collaboration towards implementing constitutional mandates of the Police as a leading Agency in maintaining the internal security, six (6) suspects were handed over to the command by operatives attached to the 133 SF Battalion based in Azare, Bauchi state,” the statement read.

“The suspects kidnapped one Ojo Tobi David ‘m’ age 23 yrs old a 400 Level student of SLT Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG) from Federal Low Cost of Azare town, Bauchi State.

“After kidnapping the victim, the suspects snatched a Toyota Camry 2010 with Reg No.KYW-925-SB belonging to one Amaechi Ikechukwu of the same address which was forcefully collected and took their victim inside swiftly heading to Misau Road Azare.

“On receipt of the distress call, the soldiers stationed at Azare/Misau military checkpoint responded immediately and intercepted the stolen vehicle alongside the suspects, meanwhile, the victim was rescued unhurt.”

He identified the suspects as Hassan Mohammed ‘m’, 27, of Chilankori Azare town, Abdul Karim Gobir’m’, 21, a 300-level student of Human physiology at BASUG, Ibrahim Yusuf’m’, 23, a 400-level student of physiology at BASUG, Peter Femi’m’, 28, of Turum area Bauchi, and Samuel Abimbola’m’, 23, of Turum area Bauchi.

As a result, four iPhones, four Android phones, one Tecno keypad phone, one power bank, two chargers, one FCMB Bank ATM card, one Zenith Bank ATM card, two bunches of keys, three vehicle tickets, three bags, a Toyota Camry with registration number KYW 925 SB, and assorted charms were discovered in their possession.

“However, one of the suspects Damilola James M of Turum area of Bauchi fell while trying to escape. He was taken to Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare for immediate medical attention but was certified dead by a medical doctor.

“A preliminary investigation at Divisional Police Headquarters Azare indicates that the crux of the matter was a result of a misunderstanding over the sharing of 3800 US Dollars obtained in the Yahoo transaction. The case will transfer to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bauchi for further investigation.”
